Welcome to
Ponderosa, California |
|
SnowFest 2009 was our 22nd annual event,
which is held each year in the February/March time frame.
SnowFest is a joint effort of the Sequoia Snowmobilers of Ponderosa and the Sugarloafers from Bakersfield. This event is where the clients and their care givers from the Porterville Shelter Workshop are invited up to snow county (Ponderosa, elevation 7,200) for a fun day in the snow. The buses with the clients generally arrive about 10 AM, where upon their arrival they are greeted by the members of the snowmobiles clubs with hot chocolate as they unload from the bus. Then the club members give rides on the snowmobiles with the clients as passengers or just have fun in the snow or throwing snowballs. At noon all are fed hamburgers/chips and a drink. Then back to more riding or playing. At 2 PM we say goodbye and see some of them again next year.
All food is donated by local merchants/business which we greatly appreciate.
This year (2009) there were about 80+
clients and 40+ workers.
Our thanks for assisting us in this event are: Sugarloafers Snowmobile Club,
Tulare County Sheriffs Department, USFS Law Enforcement, USFS, CalTrans,
California Parks, Ponderosa Lodge, Camp Nelson Volunteer Ambulance, and many
others.
